    Today, Saturday, August 15, 2026 (02 Rabiul-Awwal 1448), Moyo Islamic Academy successfully hosted their 12th Ordinary Student Meeting via Google Meet. The meeting included students from Moyo Islamic Academy and International Open University – IOU Tanzania.

    IOU VC Visits MIA, Meets with Students

    During the visit, the delegation held a direct engagement session with students, providing them an opportunity to share their experiences, challenges, and feedback on the current status of IOU operations in Pemba. Prof. Makie Taal listened attentively to the students’ concerns and subsequently addressed them on the various improvements and institutional developments that have taken place since he assumed office — reaffirming that these efforts will continue moving forward.

    The IOU Vice Chancellor further assured students that their concerns would be given due attention, and reiterated the university’s commitment to supporting every student through to successful graduation. He also encouraged students to serve as good ambassadors of IOU wherever they go, representing the values and mission of the university within their communities.

    This visit reflects IOU’s continued commitment to strengthening its presence in Pemba and ensuring students receive the support they need throughout their academic journey.

    Hon. Lela Muhamed Mussa, Minister of Education and Vocational Training of Zanzibar, tours our exhibition booth during the 7th Higher Education Exhibition at Gombani Grounds, Chake Chake, where she was briefed on our academic programmes, innovations, and institutional initiatives.

    We were honored to welcome Hon. Lela Muhamed Mussa, the Minister of Education and Vocational Training of Zanzibar, to our booth during the 7th Higher Education Exhibition at Gombani Grounds, Chake Chake. Her visit highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening higher education, innovation, and skills development. We sincerely appreciate her encouragement and support.

    Highlight – 7th Higher Education Exhibition (Day One)
    The District Commissioner of Chake ChakeMrs. Zuhura Mgeni Othman visited our exhibition booth.

    On the first day of the Higher Education Exhibition held at Gombani, the District Commissioner of Chake Chake, Mrs. Zuhura Mgeni Othman, visited our exhibition booth. During her visit, she toured the booth, engaged with our team, and learned about the academic programs, services, and opportunities we offer.     The Office of the Grand Mufti of Zanzibar Approves MIA to Deliver Islamic Studies Programmes

    Moyo Islamic Academy (MIA) is delighted to share that it has officially received approval from the Office of the Grand Mufti of Zanzibar to offer Islamic Studies programs through distance learning.

    This approval allows the institution to deliver courses in Qur’an Matiin, Tajweed, Aqeedah, Fiqh, Hadith, Tafsir al-Qur’an, Islamic Ethics, and other related Islamic disciplines via online learning platforms.

    This significant achievement supports the institution’s mission to make genuine Islamic knowledge more widely available to students both locally and globally, while upholding high standards of teaching and academic quality with the grace of Almighty Allah.

    The management of MIA extends its heartfelt thanks to the Office of the Grand Mufti of Zanzibar for its trust and support, and reaffirms its dedication to serving the Muslim community through reliable and excellent Islamic education.

    MIA HOLDS ITS 11TH REGULAR STUDENTS’ MEETING

    Moyo Islamic Academy (MIA) successfully conducted its 11th Regular Students’ Meeting on Saturday, 23 May 2026, via the Google Meet online platform.

    The event gathered students from MIA and the International Open University (IOU) – Tanzania, along with alumni and staff members, to address issues related to student well-being and the growth of the institution.

    The meeting began at 10:15 AM as a regular students’ gathering designed to enhance collaboration, communication, and academic advancement among members of the MIA/IOU Tanzania community.

    The following Agendas were discussed during the meeting:

    1. A review of the minutes and progress made on the implementation of Meeting No. 10.
    2. A discussion regarding the suspension of student services.
    3. The process for applying for sponsorship opportunities under the “100 Scholarship Initiative.”
    4. Participation in the 7th Higher Education Exhibition.
    5. Other issues affecting students and the development of the MIA/IOU Tanzania community.

    Participants offered meaningful input and renewed their dedication to unity, academic achievement, and the support of the missions and visions of both MIA and IOU communities.

    MIA sincerely thanks all students, alumni, and staff for their involvement and ongoing support in making the meeting a success.

    Enhancing Awareness of Academic Opportunities and Distance Learning

    In continuing with our goal of broadening access to high-quality education, we held a special interview with Sr. Fatma Hamad Faki of Pemba Live Radio to educate the public about the benefits and significance of distant learning.
    The conversation emphasized how accessible and adaptable online learning is for empowering individuals as well as communities. Additionally, it included an overview of the International Open University (IOU), emphasizing its unique Islamized education approach that combines Islamic principles with academic brilliance.


    Additionally, key academic opportunities such as the 1MAS project, Community Services, and the Corporate Relationship Program (CRP) were also highlighted as avenues for professional and personal growth.


    This engagement demonstrates our ongoing dedication to educating and strengthening society via accessible, value-based education.

    A Strategic Meeting on Sustainability of the 100 Scholarship Initiative

     

    A strategic virtual meeting was held today to discuss the sustainability of the ongoing 100 Scholarship Initiative, a project supporting students at the International Open University (IOU) and the Moyo Islamic Academy (MIA).

    The meeting focused on identifying practical ways to ensure the initiative continues to operate and grow over the long term. Key areas discussed included improving fundraising efforts, and introducing sustainable income sources to support the scholarship fund.

    The organizing team (i.e. MIA, Shaibu Foundation and 1MAS Rep. for Tanzania) will now move forward with implementing these strategies to strengthen the initiative and expand its impact.

    The 100 Scholarship Initiative remains committed to increasing access to education and supporting students at IOU and MIA to achieve their academic goals.
