    Our affiliated partner (The International Open University – IOU) has spent more than a decade educating students who are motivated to seek an education to better their lives and uplift their communities. Deeply rooted in the ethos of “Changing the Nation through Education”, IOU is committed to breaking down the barriers to education that exist in our world for disadvantaged students and transcending all borders.

    IOU Chancellor, Dr. Bilal Philips, remains a driving force to make higher education available to the masses and has spent decades putting it within the grasp of most students. For this reason, IOU offers a multitude of scholarships to further help students achieve success on their educational journeys.

    THE 1 MILLION SCHOLARSHIPS FOR AFRICA PROJECT AFRICA INITIATIVE

    This is a rigorous leadership program for young people determined to make a difference in Sub-Saharan Africa. It includes access to all the financial aid and support needed to study at a university abroad, undertake an internship, and learn how to become a leader.

    The 1 Million Scholarship for Africa Project’s programs are expanding every day for students in Africa and around the world who have lost one or both parents, or who have a parent who is unable to work due to a disability and wants to study but has no financial ability.

    Apply for the 1 Million Scholarships for Africa Project Africa Initiative

    1. The applicant must create an account in the Free Diploma campus and score a minimum of 80 marks in the “Foundations of Islamic Studies” Part 1 (IIS 011) and Part 2 (IIS 014) (free access for the prerequisite courses shall be given to the applicants)
    2. The applicant must create an account in the Degree campus and complete the admission process into their desired program. (the application fee waiver of $10 shall be given to the eligible candidates)

    General 1MAS Requirements

    Applicant seeking to apply for IOU 1 Million Scholarship should be:

    1. An orphan either lost one or both parents.
    2. Poor or needy but brilliant students without financial means to attend a university.
    3. Have completed 12 years of education (primary and secondary school) and obtain at least passes as required by all universities
    4. Be an African a citizen or have completed/are completing Secondary/high school in one of the following African country countries: The Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Somalia, South Africa, Liberia, Malawi, Botswana, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Mauritius, Namibia, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania.
    5. Proficient in English
    6. Have an outstanding academic performance at high school. ( Not less than 5 credits including English and Maths)
    7. In good health condition and capable of studying online
    8. Have basic computer literacy knowledge. (i.e. Ms word, Excel and PowerPoint and web browsing skills)
    9. Complete IOU Free Diploma Course and score at least 80% or above.
    10. Be committed to contributing to the development of his/her community upon completion of study.

    Application Documents to Submit

    Applicants of IOU 1 Million are required to:

    1. Completed IOU Online Scholarship application form. (Learn more how to apply by clicking here)
    2. Active email address and contact telephone number(s)
    3. Document proving the death of one or both parents, such as a death certificate
    4. Proof of age, such as a birth certificate, national ID or passport
    5. Proof of Student inability to financial means to attend a university (Bank statement)
    6. Secondary school/high school graduation certificate
    7. Academic report cards from the last two years of high school/secondary school
    8. Recommendation letter from a guarantor or an Imam
    9. Two (2) Passport-sized pictures of applicants

    GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS

    The general scholarships are available for anyone who is in need of financial assistance in order to pursue their higher studies.

    Anyone from any corner of the globe can take advantage of this scholarship, although it is only available for Bachelor degree programs and the Intensive Arabic Program (IAP).
    Alhamdulillah, IOU began giving out general scholarships since the fall semester of 2011 and as of today, hundreds of students from more than 35 countries have benefited from it.

    Criteria:
    1. The applicant must be able to prove that he/she is not able to afford the program fee structure.
    2. The applicant must provide a letter of recommendation from a local Imam or from IOU’s local Representative.
    3. The applicant must have a high school certificate or its equivalent, if taking a bachelor’s degree program.
      The applicant must have a good grasp of the English language.
    4. The applicant must create an account in the Free Diploma campus and score a minimum of 80 marks in the “Foundations of Islamic Studies” Part 1 (IIS 011) and Part 2 (IIS 014) (free access for the prerequisite courses shall be given to the applicants)
    5. The applicant must create an account in the Degree campus and complete the admission process into their desired program. (the application fee waiver of $10 shall be given to the eligible candidates)

    Existing IOU students, who have previously studied a semester at IOU are also eligible to apply for a scholarship and the performance of their last enrolled semester will be taken into consideration. The applicant must have passed at least five out of six subjects in order to be eligible for a scholarship.

    SF SCHOLARSHIP

    Shaibu Foundation is committed to breaking down the barriers to education that exist in our world for disadvantaged students and transcending all borders.

    Beneficiaries can be either from our partner – The International Open University) or Moyo Islamic Academy

    SF SCHOLARSHIP BENEFICIARIES:

    • Unemployed youth.
    • Widowed women.
    • The needy.
    • Madrasa teachers.
    • Islamic or Arabic teachers.

     

    Criteria – MIA

    The applicant will be granted scholarship based upon the below criteria.

    • Applicant must complete the registration formalities of program he/she wishes to study. The registrar should confirm the admission. 
    • Applicant must produce a Personal Statement or Statement of Purpose
    • Applicant must produce a letter of recommendation from a local Imam/Islamic Scholar.
    • Applicant must be unable to afford fees.
